Did you take a job with the promise of "flexible work hours"? For a working mom the elusive "flexible schedule" is more valuable than the end salary. Why? Because you don't have to burn a vacation day to look after a sick kid. Or write off the time spent at the doctor's office.
When the recruiters call me with the promise of the next great thing to put on my resume, my initial conversations always include the question "How flexible are you?"
I do not take changing jobs lightly. When I decide to do so, I try to look at it from every perspective.
How much more money will I make (taxes anyone?), how much effort will I have to put to make it a successful move, will I be able to make a difference, is it the right thing to put on my CV. You know, all those career questions that you have to ask yourself. But the most important is how much will my family have to sacrifice if I take this job.
Are they able to make without me if I go across the continent and for how long?
Will they deal well with MY stress?
How strict are the office hours?
If you don't understand completely where you will be spending most of your waking hours, you may be in for an unpleasant surprise. That's why, as a working mom (or dad for that matter), the question "How flexible are you" is among the most important ones to ask when you start interviewing.
Before I make a big move I always consider my family first. This is my priority and it is non-negotiable.
So, how flexible are you?

Here I will try to share the little tricks that help me keep my day on track, the healthy and not-so-healthy recipes that allow me to do my full day and still appear like a super-mom, and the little wonders that happen all the time when you are around kids.
So...
Welcome to my home! I am so happy that you found time to visit!
